Rate: $35.46 – $36.62 (L2) per hour including Tax and Super (costs associated with Insurance & Workcover are taken care of by the Employer, who will also process your Tax and Super payments on your behalf)

Fun loving family looking for an active and creative educator to join the family unit as a live in Educator. This fantastic position is available for an early 2025 start.

The family are looking for someone who is confident in managing 3 young children in a rural setting, designing play-based activities, and encourage each child’s development, learning and interests, and have a love and passion for early childcare. All three children are happy, healthy and love playing in both outdoor and indoor settings.

The role offers an attractive remuneration package, including accommodation in modern self-contained facilities, utilities and Wi-Fi- and is managed through an agency who will cover Insurances, superannuation, support services and further learning resources.

The educator’s accommodation is a 2-bedroom transportable with living area and ensuite bathroom, air-conditioning, Wi-Fi, landline telephone and vast-box TV.  The accommodation and utilities are included free of charge as part of the position, however the successful applicant will be responsible for their own meals.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone wanting to get out and see what the outback has to offer whilst working alongside a family to implement your skills and childcare knowledge in a 1:1 set.

A note from the Family regarding location and accessibility:

The position is based at Fort Grey (30 km from Cameron Corner where the NSW- SA- QLD borders meet, 110 km from Tibooburra, 440 km NW of Broken Hill), the field research station for the Wild Deserts ecosystem restoration project (find us on Facebook). Despite the remote location, we are able to get fresh groceries delivered to the door once a week, the local community is very friendly and there is always plenty going on, both on site here and around the region.

The successful applicant will need to have their own vehicle to access the site but will not be required to transport our children. Broken Hill to Tibooburra is bitumen, but the last 110 km between Tibooburra and Fort Grey is unsealed. While it is preferable to have a 4WD for the dirt roads, access by 2WD vehicles with high clearance is possible.

In 2022, the project and our story featured on ABC Australian Story Into the Wild. Our kids get involved in many aspects of the project, and naturally so too do our educators.

The Fort Grey research station has a main homestead (where we live), a separate 2-bedroom demountable cottage (to be offered to the successful applicant), a separate 2-bedroom demountable cottage where our full-time Conservation Officer lives and another separate demountable cottage for part-time field staff. We also have a 9-bedroom visitor quarters with communal kitchen and dining area. March to October each year are the busiest periods for the Wild Deserts project. During these months we have over 200 visitors with many volunteers, students and researchers staying from days to weeks on site, helping with our surveys, conducting their own research or maintenance and upgrade works.

You must:
– Not essential, but preferable to have or be working towards getting your Certificate in Early Childhood Education & Care or have a relevant higher education

– Be an experienced child care worker with at least 3 professional references.
– Have WWCC, Police Check, CPR and Level 2 First Aid
– Have a car & driver’s licence
– Be willing to commit for at least 12 months
– Full working rights in Australia (Applicants with 155, 190 & 186 visas may be considered depending on conditions and length of remaining stay –
417 & 462 visas need not apply)
